What’s Possible?

With so much uncertainty, continuous change, and feeling overworked, what’s possible and what is the potential “upside”?

We seem to be in a continuous cycle, and one constant I’m hearing from leaders at all levels is there is just too much work to be done, and not enough time. I have clients who truly are working 12+ hour days, leaving them feeling frustrated, depleted, and often disengaged. This won’t serve anyone well in the long-term.

There is no easy fix. We can talk about boundary setting and delegating, among other things. And, sometimes we need to take a deeper look at how we are working and consider the team and/or company culture.

If we can approach the “deep dive” with an open mind – meaning not judging, but rather entering with curiosity, possibilities can open.

It’s at times like these, that if we stay on the hamster wheel, we won’t get very far. However, if we can take a pause and get curious, positive change often results.

Learnings from work with clients:

  • We often approach work in the same manner without stopping to consider what we could be doing differently.
  • We typically accept the culture as is, rather than considering “What do we want?”
  • We often “keep it to ourselves” because we are concerned we can’t burden others with more.
  • When we challenge ourselves to think differently, innovative ideas can arise.
  • When we intentionally consider what we want the culture to be, we can move forward with intention to try to transform the culture.
  • When we are transparent, we build trust.

No change is easy, but if we accept the status quo, the change that will provide opportunities will not occur.

This is Possible

When we are transparent and engage our people in the process, most often there is a positive impact. They feel informed, appreciate being able to contribute, and typically buy-in making the change process that much easier.
