What Inspires you To Follow Through with Change
Change is a big part of the work that I do. Leaders looking to perform at a higher level requires not only self-awareness but to change habits and behaviors. Teams looking to function as a high-performing team, need to identify what’s not serving them, and embrace new habits to enact the change they are seeking. Workshop participants looking to grow and develop, commit to actions that will help them to change – their approach, their mindset…their habits.
Within a 12-hour time span this week, I had four separate conversations all initiated by others that led to the same area of focus – the desire and challenges of staying focused to build new habits or to incorporate new ways of doing and being to create change. The four separate conversations addressed:
- Managing change and making it stick
- Achieving alignment among team members
- Engaging in more effective communication techniques, and..
- Gaining commitment from a project team
As you read through the list above, what comes up for you?
Change is not easy! And it is constant and necessary.
Those who embrace change and hold a perspective that change brings new opportunities are at an advantage. And, even those individuals (teams and organizations) can struggle to commit to change and to actually see change through.
Change, and building habits for change, takes focus.
Many of my clients want to tackle too many goals (which require change) all at once. Whether working with an individual, a team or workshop participants, I stress the importance of taking one step at a time and more specifically, identifying where to focus.
Having clear goals, ideally setting a vision on 2 goals, is more achievable than setting 10 separate goals. And creating a clear plan of what you need to do to achieve your goals, with action steps and timing commitments, and identifying what may derail you, will help to make it more achievable.
- What change are you contemplating or ready to embark on?
- What positive results are you hoping for?
- What are you most curious about?
- What action steps do you need to take to achieve your desired results?
Curious?
