Settle vs. Change

 In Blog

Today is earth day. It’s a day that calls to our attention the importance of taking care of our earth and not settling for what is, but rather being part of the change that is so needed for future generations. We all need to be part of the change to make our earth a clean, safe, and healthy environment in which to live. What will you do, today and going forward, to be a part of this change?

What Keeps You with the Status Quo?

I often speak with individuals who stay with the status quo even though they admit they are not content and want more. They rationalize in various ways including, “I’m making a good salary”;  “the executive team is set in their ways and doesn’t want to hear my ideas”; “I should be grateful for what I have”, etc. In teams and organizations, I hear, “this is how we’ve always done it”; “it will take more resources than we have to change how we do things”, and more. I think you get the gist.

Imagine, in the past year, if everyone, including companies, sat back and didn’t adjust. This past year required change, if nothing else than for many companies and their employees to change where work got done. People had to leave their offices and find a way to work from home. There was no option to settle. We were forced to accept the change and adapt. Adapt to communicating in new ways. Adapt to learning new ways to balance work life and home life as the boundaries became quite blurred. It wasn’t easy, and for many they still struggle. And for others, they learned and developed as professionals.

There have been many learnings this past year. As mentioned, being able to pivot at work was required for many and new learnings came out of it. I’ve also talked with people who learned that we never know what obstacles we may come up against. If you’re settling, how is it serving you?

We Have Choice

We have choice. If you’re looking for change for yourself, or want to create change on your team or in your organization, what’s holding you back? What do you want to do differently to step up and take charge of the opportunities you desire to seize? What will make you take the next step?

I partner with organizations to help their leaders and teams to achieve optimal results. Interested in learning more and exploring how you can become more intentional about moving from “settling” to working toward change? Let’s connect.
